On 6 January 2010, Mr. Kamal Najjar, Business Development Manager in the FedEx Department of Defense Sales, presented the Chapter President with a check for over a thousand dollars in support of the recent Thanksgiving Event at the Hilton.
Thanksgiving Day 2009, AUSA-Kuwait hosted a dinner at the Hilton Resort for hundreds of US service personnel who are based in Kuwait.
The Kuwait Chapter was a sponsor
for the annual Army 10-Miler held at Camp Buehring on 4 October 2009. Starting
at 6 am in the morning, there were 569 runners from the Army, Navy, Air Force,
and Marines who went the distance. Runners ranged in age from the 29 and under
category to the over 50 category. The fastest runner, a corporal assigned to
Camp Buehring, ran the 10 miles in 1 hour and 7 minutes. AUSA contributed
towards the awards given to the top runners and towards the Tshirts handed out
to runners and event volunteers. We manned a membership table throughout the
event.
Audie Murphy Club
10 October 2009 -
In honor of the Year of the
NCO, the Kuwait Chapter sponsored the Audie Murphy Club in inducting three new
members into its ranks. The chapter provided medallions, a trophy and three
AUSA memberships to the inductees.
AUSA Annual Convention in Washington DC October 2009
The Kuwait Chapter was well
represented at this year's Annual Convention. Executive Vice President, Ray
Rodon, VP for Media Meghan McCabe, LNO for ASG-K CSM Don Harbin, the Soldier of
the Year, NCO of the Year, and General Member Jana Weston, joined the Chapter
President in attending the various during the Convention. Additionally, the
Chapter supported the European Department's support of USAREUR with financial
support. The Chapter received two streamers and a Silver President's Club Pin
while attending. We also provided a brief about the AUSA Clothing Locker during
the Chapter Presidents' Workshop.
Gulf Holding Group Sponsors AUSA-Kuwait Activities
Al-Fouzan with AUSA-Kuwait Leaders
On 14 October, Mr. Farid Al-Fozan, CEO of the
Gulf Holding Group, and Mr. Mahmoud Alhaj, presented the AUSA Chapter with a
check for 300 Kuwaiti Dinars (about $1,050).The attached photo shows these two
gentlemen, joined by Chapter President Randy Williams. The Gulf Group is one of
our very generous local corporate sponsors who donated this money for the
purpose of buying a set of dress blue uniforms for the NCO of the Year and
Soldier of the Year from Kuwait. This purchase is being arranged through the
Area Support Group - Kuwait Command Sergeant Major Don Harbin.
2009 Freedom Walk at US Embassy - Kuwait
On 17 September, the AUSA Kuwait Chapter sponsored the Walk
for the Fallen at the US Embassy. The Chapter President joined Ambassador
Deborah K. Jones and LTG David Webster, Commander ARCENT, in welcoming 100
soldiers, 50 airmen, and about 100 Embassy staff. A BBQ was held after the
walk, where a band performed for the attendees. All food, refreshments, band,
and some prizes were donated by AUSA corporate sponsors.
